Recreation club (its own not-for-profit)

The resident club behind much of the social life at the North Clubhouse and throughout Palm Hill: Monday coffee, Tuesday bingo, dances, the craft fair and bazaar, and trips.

What it does

  • Runs Monday coffee, Tuesday night bingo and the Saturday Pancake Breakfast (in season) in the North hall.
  • Puts on events: karaoke dance nights, the Halloween golf cart parade, the July 4th picnic, and New Year's Eve in turn with the South club.
  • Holds the Craft Fair and the December Bazaar.
  • Keeps the North Library and the Memorial board.
  • Sends Sunshine cards with the South club; runs trips and ladies' luncheons.

Its role at Palm Hill

Its own not-for-profit corporation, Palm Hill North Recreation Club, Inc., with its own officers, by-laws and money. It is not part of the HOPH Board. It runs the North hall, kitchen and its activities with the Board's permission; no HOPH director may be an officer.

How it can help you

  • Sign up or buy tickets: sheets on both clubhouse bulletin boards; tickets at the coffees.
  • Craft Fair or Bazaar table ($20): ask the club President.
  • Memorial board plate ($25): ask the club President.
  • Tell Sunshine about a neighbor: Sunshineinpalmhill@gmail.com.
  • Volunteer: Sports Director and an Inside Entertainment assistant are open.

Joining

Any Palm Hill resident may join, owner or renter. The by-laws set dues at $1 a person a year, tax included. You get a name tag when you pay; wear it at bingo and club events. Most events are open to all residents.

Booking the hall

For a private event in the North hall or kitchen: Reserve a Venue on the club website (Members menu), or the paper Recreation Clubhouse Contract. $50 rental by check, plus $50 hall and $50 kitchen deposits in cash, returned after inspection. Open club events and resident memorials: no fee. The Inside Entertainment Director and the President sign.

When it meets

By its by-laws, the club board meets the second Monday of the month and the members the third Monday, with summers off. Annual Meeting: third Monday in February, after the election that Wednesday before. Nominating committee in October, slate in December. Minutes go on the clubhouse bulletin board.
